We own & operate CrossFit Geelong, Australia. We affiliated with CrossFit in 2008 we quickly grew out our smaller premises and then moving into our purpose built box in March 2011. Prior to this, we ran a gym for 6 years.
Over that time, we have spent time working with a business coach who taught us how to work properly on the business and make it work for us. After talking to many box owners, we realized that in order to train and enjoy your own box, you must find a balance in work & play and still keep a firm grip on steering the ship! This we have now mastered!
We have 7 coaches, 3 Admin/management staff & 1 bookkeeper to keep our box running like a well oiled machine. We have tripled since March 2011 so we have had to get our systems down pat to keep up with the influx and the constant stream of work. We love CrossFit, our box does well and our members thrive on the community we have all built here. Our number 1 piece of advice is: employ great people who love their work and see the box and their fellow co-workers as a second family. In return this will spread to the members and you can't really go wrong with that recipe!
Having good solid operational tools means you can put all your energy into coaching and getting out there with the people in your CF community which should be your number 1 priority. Many box owners we have spoken to start up because they love CrossFit but soon realise the enormity of the business side of things. Unless the rent and trainers get paid, coaching soon becomes not as fun...
We have been approached by a few box owners new and existing in regards to our processes and to help in a few areas, our "What is CrossFit" Info graphic went viral recently and the messages we have received in regards to more material has been amazing. So much so we have decided to share our admin templates from Registration/ Indemnity forms to incident report forms, posters and procedures to the CF Community to help make that back end smooth. The Admin forms in docx format which are editable and we have purposely left our names and logos on there so you know were to add your logo & name.
